The survival of the soul and its passage through the material plane as means of progressive improvement of mankind is one of the basic principle of  Spiritist doctrine.

  • 167. What is the aim of reincarnation?

"Expiation; progressive improvement of mankind. Without this aim, where would be its

Justice?” (The Spirits Book , Allan Kardec.)

  • John 3:1-12
    Jesus Teaches Nicodemus

Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.[a]”

4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You[c] must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”[d]

9 “How can this be?” Nicodemus asked.

10 “You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? 11 Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things?

Why do we forget?

If we went through all this Why can’t we  remember anything?

392. Why does the incarnated spirit lose the remembrance of his past?

"Man cannot, and may not, know everything; God, in His wisdom, has so ordained. Without the veil which hides certain things from his view, man would be dazzled, like one who passes suddenly from darkness to light. Through the forgetfulness of his past a man is more fully himself."

Opportunity to redeem

Each life that we incarnate is an opportunity to redeem the mistakes we commit.

If we remember all the previous lives, we would have an unfair advantage. We would do things not because we learn, but just because we remember the error. We would not have the merits of the actions we take.

Is everything we learn lost?

We must remember that the main life is the spirit life; each incarnation is just a learning process, but we always come back to the larger plan and regain part of our spiritual memory;

During a new existence, we can sometimes observe the slight remembrance of the past through innate ideas; untaught talents and skills; Also noticeable in our relantionships;

Does it help to remember?

What would we do with the knowledge of the past, if we remember everything?

Who would not want to know what to know what they did/were in past lives? - I think almost everyone.

In our eternal spiritual evolution, everyone will eventually know all aspects of life. So everyone goes through all : as rich, poor, healthy, sick, etc. In what conditions we reincarnate is not important, but what we make of our lives.

Can we somehow remember?

God only wants the best for us. As a result, He knows that sometimes a small revelation here, a flashback from the past there can help someone who is losing direction, and not listening to what their conscience is telling them.

Look at your present and analyze it.

"If you want to know how your past was, look at your present, everything you see today is the result of what you did yesterday."

The Spirit of Truth

• God hides the past from us during our incarnation so we are not overwhelmed by the truth. The memory of the past could either bring us shame and guilt or exalt our pride;

• When we are in the spiritual plane we have a better understanding of our past and we seek to repair past faults an reinforce lessons in a new life;

• The voice of conscience is often the intuitive memory of past stopping us from making the same mistakes in the present;

• Is not important to know what we were, what matters is to leverage the current existence and correct the evil tendencies we possess
