Contributing

“Let each contribute according to what he has decided in his heart; not sadly or out of necessity, for God loves what is given out of joy.” – Paul (2 Cor.9:7)”

Paul’s statement that God loves what is given out of joy is understood by many as referring only to material charity.

Praise, however, is not restrict to generous hands that distribute small donations of goodness to the needy and to the suffering.

Of course, all gestures of love receive divine recognition, but we must remember that the word “contributing” in the current lesson appears in all its sublimity.

Cooperation in the good is pulsating matter every day and everywhere. Any individual is capable of extending it. It is not only the beggar who hopes for it, but also the cradle where all experience is renewed, the family in which we refine our virtuous accomplishments, our neighbour, our brother or sister in humanity. And the workplace, which signals our own individual improvement in our daily efforts.

At the moment of nightly rest, each heart can question itself regarding the quality of its cooperation at work, in conversations, in affectionate relationships, or in this or that everyday life endeavor.

Let us be cautious regarding unproductive sadness and gloom, Ill will, complaints, dissatisfaction, and frivolities are not part of the labor that the Lord expects from our activities in the world. Let us mobilize our resources optimistically, and let us not forget that the Father loves the child that contributes with joy.
